Western Massachusetts Wind

I took a trip into western Massachusetts yesterday to finish shopping for Christmas.  I've only been there a few times and took a new route.  Here's what I saw on the western edge of the Berkshire mountains, just into Massachusetts.  Wind turbines.  This is less than 10 miles east of my house as the crow flies (quite a few more driving miles though).  Google maps terrain view indicates that the higher turbine is at about 2400 feet.  Hmm.

  1. Nothin' much prettier than a wind turbine, to my mind's eye! (Even though I hear what they're saying, I've NEVER understood the complaints against them. I doubt household cats kill fewer birds than a wind turbine, and anyone who says that they're noisy has never stood underneath one.)

If we win the lottery, one will definitely be in our future! In the summertime, the solar panels are great here, but northeastern MN has . . . no . . . sun . . . in the winter. None.

  2. Seems like a good use of wind turbines -- where there is wind!

Jordan, Jenna has to find a new home for her goat, Finn. Is it time for your first goat?

  3. Kate - I thought seriously about it! I want to get 2-3 goats to start since they're social animals. Maybe someone else has taken him already....

Chicken Mama - You should write about solar more in your blog! I'm curious how well they work for you. Do you run out of power in the winter??

  4. These have been stopped near where I work ... complaints of them wanting to constuct them in a migratory bird route. RIGHT IDEA WRONG LOCATION read the signs...
