Salvation Army Score!

Ten bucks for the chair!  I love this store!  The fabric and color match exactly a chair I got for free about 5 years ago.  Plus, this one is really sturdy and comfortable.  Just the other day I was wishing for a recliner that is on the small side, and now here it is!  I'm so lucky.

It looks like I need to load up on wood.

  2. Yes! I keep the dogs outside when I'm gone (I have an unheated enclosed porch they can use to get out of the wind and weather) and now that it's getting cold, I want to give them something warm to snuggle in. I found a sleeping bag for $2 that I'm going to put in Maggie's crate. Another perfect find!

  3. Nice Chair!! I have a wide-att chair (chair & a half) in my living room that is dirty and I doesn't clean up and I wish I was brave enough to just do a slip cover. I don't know where to start, so I keep putting it off. They just don't make the covering like they used to. I remember my mom & dad needed furniture and we were 'thrify' (poor) and they came home with a light/med pink set. I have to laugh now when I think of it. I didn't think that much about it then, but 4 kids and a pink couch and chair! Glad your dog-warming went well, too! The SA that I visit sometimes never has much in the furniture line. Must be someone else beats me there! I did score a chair by the side of the road one day with a FREE sign on it. Took it to my preschool and used it for the reading chair for several years...then when I left I gave it to my brother, who needed a little furniture. I'd have kept it if he didn't want it. I loaded it into my suburban and all the way home I thought...I don't know these people. I hope there are no mice or snakes in this chair!! I made it home safely!

  4. Hey Karen Sue - slipcovers are easier than you think. I've made a few, and they always come out well. Essentially, you need muslin to make the pattern pieces, and the actual fabric. Lay the muslin against the chair parts and draw a line where you'll cut and sew (seat, front, each side, back, arms), making the pattern pieces. I've always also covered each cushion individually and used piping to make it look a little less 'home-made.'

  5. Jordan-
So what do you do under the cushion? do you just leave it loose and then cover it with the cushion, or do you sew it all together?? Are you understanding what I'm asking? You know how your change all falls in the cracks?? Do you leave that part open and it is covered with the cushion??

  6. Karen Sue - I make an entire slipcover, like this one:

but I cover the cushions seperately and put them ON TOP of the slipcover. Like this:

  7. Nice chair. Your room looks very cozy with the chair and the wood holder in the background. Now you just need a cup of something hot, a quilt and a good book for the perfect afternoon or evening. =)
