Losing Feathers

Somebody (or multiple somebodies) in the henhouse - is losing feathers.  Here are two of the many.  All the birds look the same as before, so I can't tell who it is.

Is this normal?  Should I be concerned?

  1. Very normal. There are certain times of the year when our goose pen looks like I could collect enough for two or three pillows. (I know, I know, it's not the feathers but rather the down. Feathers are too pokey and ouchy. That's why you have to be careful to get good quality down. Poor quality is "supplemented" with feathers and that makes for a rude awakening when you try to snuggle with poor quality down products.) How the heck did I get off on that tangent?

  2. Oh, I just got chickens (thanks to you) and just read that once or twice a year they will molt, they can get more stressed during this and might not lay as many eggs, but it's just fine. I think it will last a few weeks.
